John Stamos Defends The Olsens’ Decision To Skip Fuller House

Uncle Jesse himself, John Stamos, has explained all the controversy surrounding whether the Olsens would return to the role as Michelle in Fuller House.

If you are anything like me, you’ve watched the trailer for Fuller House over a dozen times already, eyes filling with joyous tears each time … but there is one familiar voice missing from the other side of that door.

As we quickly approach the release date of the famed sitcom sequel on Netflix, rumors are flying quickly about the returning cast. It seems that nearly the entire original cast is planning on returning to give us the feels with the exception of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the twins who played the lovable Michelle Tanner. Fans filled with doubt (Say it ain’t so!), and, soon enough, hearsay led us to believe that they may have not been asked to return in the first place.

The subject was brought up Monday morning on the Howard Stern Show during an interview with the show’s star and producer, John Stamos (a.k.a. Uncle Jesse):

“I think there was some confusion. They said first I didn’t ask them. And I didn’t personally, but I was told they were asked… So I had a knee-jerk reaction and said, ‘Bullsh*t, I did ask them!’ And they got upset, so I did call and talked to Mary-Kate and explained what the show is going to be and told them I’d love for them to be on there and they decided not to, which I respect.”

Stern brought up the question may others have been thinking … Do the girls feel they are just too famous to come crawling back to the sitcom life? After all, the plot of the show, itself, has Michelle living in New York City, caught up in the life as a famous fashion designer. Taking on his pseudo-Uncle form, Stamos came to the girls’ defense saying:

“You’d have to ask them. They seemed … they were very, very sweet. They seemed very into it. They just were afraid of acting. They don’t consider themselves actresses. I said maybe you guys will just be in New York and we’ll do a phone call or something and they were like, ‘Let us think about it,’ and it just wasn’t for them, so…”

Looks like, for now, we will be missing a Tanner come February. Perhaps, if the show moves on to a second season, we might still get one last “You got it dude!” For now, we’ll just have to settle for a “Have Mercy!”
