In an open letter, movie star Jon Voight has criticized fellow actors, Javier Bardem and his wife Penelope Cruz for signing a letter that denounced Israel’s current military campaign in the Gaza strip.

“My name is Jon Voight and I am more than angry, I am heartsick that people like Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem could incite anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage they have caused.” Jon Voights open letter reads. “I am asking all my peers who signed that poison letter against Israel to examine their motives,”

Bardem and Cruz has been earlier accused of being an anti-Semite for their letter, prompting Bardem to issue a statement which says:

“My signature was solely meant as a plea for peace. Destruction and hatred only generate more hatred and destruction. While I was critical of the Israeli military response, I have great respect for the people of Israel and deep compassion for their losses. I am now being labeled by some as anti-Semitic, as is my wife — which is the antithesis of who we are as human beings. We detest anti-Semitism as much as we detest the horrible and painful consequences of war.”

So far more than 1,800 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing conflict, majority of which are civilians including children. 485,000 Palestinians have also been displaced from their homes. Three Israeli civilians have been killed and 64 members of the Israeli Defense forces have lost their lives in combat.
