Josh Hartnett, the 35-year-old heartthrob who went from rising Hollywood star to indie actor, opened up to Details in its May 2014 issue about his disappearance from the Hollywood spotlight. Hartnett says it’s simple –he couldn’t handle the fame!
He said he was offered iconic roles, such as Spiderman, Batman, and Superman, but he declined them saying, “I somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn’t want that.” His passing of these roles even led to arguments within his management team. “There was a lot of infighting between my manager and agents, trying to figure out who to put the blame on. It got to the point where none of us were able to work together.”
Hartnett says he doesn’t mind being out of the spotlight, he actually enjoys it. “Years ago, if I saw a role I wanted, there was a good chance I could grab it. When I see a role now, I’ve got to fight for it. It’s not bad. It’s actually more rewarding.”
