American Idol Kelly Clarkson has officially released the music video for one of her most personal releases to date “Piece by Piece,” and the visual is guaranteed to bring out a few emotional tears.
The track has been selected as the third official single of Kelly Clarkson’s studio album of the same name, and it delves into Clarkson’s relationship with her father, who abandoned her as a child. The “Heartbeat Song” singer simultaneously praises her husband Brandon Blackstock for restoring her faith in men, while also vowing to never leave her daughter like she had been left.
After being selected for an official release, “Piece by Piece” received a bit of a facelift before impacting radio. An extended intro features some sweetly crooned notes from Clarkson, and the production has generally been amped up a few beats per minute. The resulting treatment adds some pop sensibility to the otherwise stunning single.
The accompanying music video emphasizes the special bond that exists between a mother and her child. Shot entirely in black and white Clarkson appears alongside a collection of other mothers and their children.

In a powerful moment of the video a child’s eye reflects the starry night sky revealing that they hold the future in their eyes. The stars proceed to shoot through the sky, adding a sense of triumph and joy to the serious atmosphere.
As the visual comes to a close it takes on an even more personal meaning, as Kelly Clarkson’s 17 month old daughter River Rose makes a cameo. The camera pans out on a shot of the musician holding her beaming daughter, revealing a glimpse at Clarkson’s baby bump in the process. The musician revealed that she is currently pregnant with a son before a performance of “Piece by Piece” while on tour in August. Looks like both babies made a heartwarming appearance in the gorgeous video!
