In the wake of a not-so-great year, Kesha will hopefully be making a comeback with a duet that brought her to tears.
While it looked like the possibility of new music from Kesha seemed impossible due to her legal battle with Kemosabe Records producer Dr. Luke, the singer recently shared a photo of herself with half her face hidden and smudged make up due to “happy tears,” saying that she’d recorded some new music:
"never in my life imagined this dream could ever actually come true.... please pray one day y'all can hear this music. it's the most vulnerable and honest I have ever been to myself and it's literally documenting me growing up. I cannot wait and will forever fight for u to hear it."
Due to Kesha’s suit against Dr. Luke for allegedly drugging, raping, and emotionally abusing her and his subsequent defamation suit against the singer for defamation, Kesha has been kept out of the studio in spite of the 22 songs she has waiting to be released. The only song she released this year was a collaboration with Russian-German electronic music producer Zedd entitled “True Colors.” This had been her first release in over three years due to her various legal troubles and hit number 8 on the US iTunes chart despite minimal promotion. She also reached out to her fans via Instagram for this achievement, saying “YOU have been there for me through a time I thought, at many different times, I couldn't live through. I couldn't fathom being on the other side. and here we are. thanks to YOU.”
While the artist she recorded this new, emotional duet with remains a mystery, it sounds like the struggle continues for Kesha to bring new music to her fans.
