The world witnessed history in the making yesterday.
In case you are [somehow] unaware, the Supreme Court of the United States declared the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, lifting the federal ban on gay marriage and granting same-sex couples over 1,000 rights and benefits that traditional couples already enjoy.
As a result of this, gay celebrity couple Kristin Bell and Dax Shepard will finally tie the knot! Wait. Did I read that right? The couple, who welcomed a bouncing baby girl in March, has yet to make their relationship “official” as they were waiting for marriage equality to be present in the United States.
“The reason we’re not rushing to get married is because I don’t feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that’s denied to my [LGBT] friends. That’s why we’ve been so hesitant,” she stated in an interview with The Advocate in 2012.
“Dax and I have talked about it a lot, and this issue is very important to both of us. We’re just standing up for what we believe in. Period.”
As soon as the news broke that DOMA had been struck down, Bell jumped at the chance to propose to her beau of over three years via Twitter, of course.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
