Aberdeen, Washington has announced the first annual “Kurt Cobain” day.
Nearly 20 years after the Nirvana lead singer’s death, Cobain’s hometown plans to unveil the proclamation on February 12,and the day will commence on February 20, Cobain’s birthday.
Aberdeen city council said that, “Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievement.”
Bill Simpson, Aberdeen’s mayor, said he hopes to make this day an annual event, and rumor has it that the day could turn into Kurt Cobain week.
In the nearby town of Hoquaim, a similar announcement was made. Cobain spent a short period of time there and the town will have their day on April 10, the same day that Nirvana was admitted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
