It’s the moment all Little Monsters have been counting down the days till… the unveiling of the artwork for Lady Gaga’s upcoming studio album, ARTPOP. Now the wait is finally over as yesterday (October 7) the cover was finally revealed.

In true Lady Gaga fashion, the unveiling was nothing short of a spectacle in and of itself as it was revealed simultaneously on billboards around the world as well as through a live stream on her official website of its appearance in New York’s famous Times Square.

The cover is a sculpture of a naked Gaga sitting behind a blue orb. The sculpture was created by New York artist, Jeff Koons. Koons has won numerous awards for his sculptures, which are on public display all around the world. Two of his more famous works are the floral sculpture, Puppy (1992), now permanently displayed at the Guggenheim Bilbao and Split-Rocker (2000), which was installed in France at the Papal Palace, Avignon and also at the Palace of Versailles.

Gaga is full of praise for the artist and encouraged her fans to welcome him to the “family”, tweeting:

She also announced that the cover art sculpture will have prime position at the ARTPOP release party on November 10.

ARTPOP, which is available for pre-order now, will be released the following day, November 11.
