Lady Gaga Selected As Billboard’s 2015 Woman Of The Year

She lives for the applause and the awards, and it looks like Lady Gaga is due to receive both thanks to her selection as Billboard‘s 2015 Woman of the Year! The award is the highest honor from Billboard and Lifetime‘s annual Women in Music event, which honors women who have accomplished incredible feats over the last year.

It was announced today that Lady Gaga would be following last year’s victor Taylor Swift at this year’s televised Women in Music event. Lifetime has signed a previously unheard of three-year deal to air the show on its female-focused network. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on December 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York and will hit televisions on December 18.

Co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s entertainment group, which includes Billboard, Janice Mir recognized Lady Gaga as more than deserving of this honor:

Billboard‘s Woman of the Year has always represented the finest in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year. No one embodies that more than Lady Gaga in 2015 […] there is no woman dominating popular culture tastes and its evolution as much as she is today. What a force.

Lady Gaga is poised for a huge return to the realm of pop music in the second half of the year and into 2016.  The “Just Dance” songstress has been photographed in the recording studio with longtime collaborator RedOne, who vows that Gaga is putting out some of her best work yet.  The world is currently clamoring for a return to the pop sounds of her earliest years, after Lady Gaga teamed up with Tony Bennet for a foray into jazz standards on her most recent release, Cheek to Cheek.

After taking some time out of mainstream media in 2014, the recently engaged Gaga received a warm welcome back after her glorious tribute to The Sound of Music at the 2015 Oscars. Her poignant “Till It Happens To You” was attached to an exposé on college sexual assault, and the music video recently made its way online. Between this and her highly anticipated appearance on FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel, Lady Gaga has been all over the news in recent weeks!
