Mayhew has been a vocal supporter of Disney’s deal with George Lucas to take over the legendary cinematic saga.

In 2012 Mayhew stated, “I have no doubt Disney will respect and continue the legacy of Lucasfilm. I have worked with Disney for many years during their Star Wars Weekends Celebration and seen how much they love the films and the fans.”

Disney studios chairman Alan Horn recently revealed that the script for the film is complete and that most of the cast is “in place.”

The rumors of Mayhew’s involvement follow earlier reports that original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will be revisiting their iconic characters.

Lupita Nyong’o, Michael Fassbender, Hugo Weaving, Adam Driver, Zac Efron, and Jesse Plemons are among the new faces that might be appearing in the film.

Star Wars: Episode VII, directed and co-written by JJ Abrams, is planned for theatrical release on December 18th, 2015.
