Leno Out? Fallon In?

Rumors are starting to swirl that NBC isn’t planning on renewing Jay Leno’s contract with “The Tonight Show”.

If you remember Leno, who is contracted through 2014, left once before. NBC, not wanting to anger their favorite child, gave him his own show while Conan O’Brien moved into the hosting spot for “The Tonight Show.”  You may recall, after a war of words and one heck of a media circus, Conan was given the boot (with a massive payout let me add) and Jay got his job back.

Why the urge to switch all of a sudden? If you’ve seen the ratings, you know NBC is struggling and struggling bad. They’re having issues with a finding a hit signature show for the network and are desperate to reach that 18-49 demographic. ABC, who moved Jimmy Kimmel to the 11:35 time slot, has seen incredible ratings and NBC hopes that moving Fallon to the 11:35 time slot and naming him the new host of “The Tonight Show,” they’ll reap the rating benefits as well.

So what are your thoughts? Time to let Jay Leno go? Will Fallon be a ratings powerhouse? Who would get the “Late Night With ______” spot? I’ve got an idea…how about a “Late Night With Tina Fey”? Now that is a show I’d watch.
