Lifetime Gives Us Our First Look At Alexandra Shipp As Aaliyah

Lifetime gives us our first look at Alexandra Shipp as Aaliyah. The Aaliyah Lifetime movie is set to be released later this year.

Lifetime has had a movie about Aaliyah’s life in the works for quite a while now. After a lot of controversies and setbacks, the network is going through with the release of the biopic. The film is titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B and stars Alexandra Shipp as the late songstress, with a first photo of her in the role finding its way online.

The movie will be taking from the singer’s biography, Aaliyah: More Than A Woman, possibly even extending to her relationship with R. Kelly. It is scheduled to include the songstress’ life, right before her tragic death in a plane crush, back in 2001. The biopic is set to be produced in Toronto. Lifetime has now announced that the film was given the green light to premiere on November 15.

Shipp grabbed the part as soon as actress and singer Zendaya Coleman dropped it back in June. The latter did not want to be associated with the film, due to it seeming rushed. Even though she could possibly be a better fit for the role, fans protested against her casting. The late icon’s family though seem to not have a problem with the actress herself, but with the overall release of a film, stating that Aaliyah deserved more than a Lifetime movie.

What do you think? Is the biopic appropriate and does Shipp deliver as Aaliyah? Leave a comment below and let us know.
