Lily James Joins ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!’

Cinderella star Lily James joins the already impressive, growing and returning cast of next summer’s Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!

In case you didn’t know, a sequel to the musical hit Mamma Mia (2008) is coming to theaters next summer, and it’s called Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again (2018), and also in case you didn’t know, Lily James was announced to be joining the cast! How can life get any better right now?

This article’s cover photo is one of many that were released from Daily Mail, showcasing one of the sure to be many song and dance numbers with Lily James, looking like she is having a great time rocking out, as well as appearing quite fashionable in her striped jumpsuit costume.

If the name Lily James doesn’t sound familiar, you might remember her playing the lead role in Disney’s recent live-action adaptation of Cinderella (2015), and she can still be seen in theaters right now in the music and action-enthused Baby Driver (2017). She will also be starring in the upcoming biopic Darkest Hour (2017) with Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill this November. The beautiful rising star with that irresistible smile will be portraying Young Donna, Meryl Streep’s character, in supposed flashbacks. Whether or not these flashbacks will be taking up the bulk of the movie or just being brief cut-back-to scenes we still don’t know, although it is probably safe to say that the majority of the film will focus on these past events of Donna meeting her three boyfriends (as sung about in the original film’s emotional but catchy ‘Our Last Summer’), since the filmmakers have gone to the trouble to cast not just a young Donna but younger versions of all the original film’s stars and characters. No need to fear however! Your original crew from the first movie will still be starring in this movie as well.

We’re soaking up every bit of new information we get on this upcoming sequel, the announcement for the film itself being an immense surprise to be hitting theaters next summer already, and Lily James adding her talent and charm to the sequel only gets us more excited. She certainly will be… the “Dancing Queen.” Or at least, the younger Dancing Queen (we can’t take that title away from Meryl, but at least it’s the same character).

Oh, and in case you were wondering, a young Sam (Pierce Brosnan in the adult role) has been cast as well! Thankfully, there is some resemblance, if only a little. Jeremy Irvine (Steven Spielberg’s War Horse (2011)) won the part.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again will star Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Christine Baranski, Colin Firth, Lily James, Jeremy Irvine, Alexa Davies, Hugh Skinner, Jessica Keenan Wynn, and Josh Dylan, and will boom shakalaka into theaters on July 20, 2018. We can’t wait until the first trailer! You’ll be sure to hear about it from us.
