Madonna is being berated by critics after posting a picture of her 13-year-old son, Rocco Ritchie, and two of his friends wielding bottles of booze on her Instagram account on New Years Day.

The Material Girl posted the picture, which took place at a party in Switzerland, with the caption “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014”.

Fans and followers have accused Madonna, 55, of promoting underage drinking. Madonna spent New Years at a ski resort in Gstaad, Switzerland, with her four children and friends. The drinking age in Switzerland is 16.

Although Rocco and his friends are pictured holding the bottles of alcohol, they are not shown drinking it.

Madonna responded to critics on Instagram Jan 5, according to Metro, saying “No-one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t start the year off with judgement!”.

The uprising in stories about people coming under fire for inappropriate tweets and posts provides a valuable lesson: think twice before you post. That goes double if you’re a celebrity.
