Breaking up with someone via text message is one thing, but to be notified of a loved one’s passing via text is just not okay!
When Malaysia Airlines’ Flight MH 370 went missing, families were united in their unwavering hope that their lost family members would be returned to them. But when their phones went off at 9AM on Monday, all of that hope evaporated. Najik Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, made an official worldwide telecast announcement an hour later.
The text itself was very noncommittal, using buzzwords like “regret” and “assume.” This caused families to spiral into grief, a state the media and photographers have taken full advantage of since the text was sent out.
Malaysia Airlines has since been reprimanded for its methods in communicating this tragedy.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the friends and families of those lost on Flight MH 370.
