Ever heard of the Loch Ness Monster?
According to a Catholic legend that goes back over 1,000 years, a giant monster living in the Ness River threatened a man and that prompted St. Columbia to banish the monster to Loch Ness, a freshwater lake in the Scottish Highlands.
Supposedly Nessie, as she’s sometimes called, now lives there and has been spotted thousands of times over the decades, but she’s also quite elusive and there has never been any concrete sighting.
The latest possible sighting comes from Andy Dixon, who said he was looking through some satellite images of Scotland on Apple Maps. When he decided to look at Loch Ness, he saw a “ghoulish-looking figure” in the water.
Although it was assumed to be the wake of a boat at first, that assumption was negated when no other evidence of a boat could be seen near the figure. The map does pick up images of other boats, so this was something else.
“Whatever it is, it’s just below the surface and heading south so unless there have been secret submarine trials going on in the loch, the size of the object would make it likely to be Nessie,” Gary Campbell, of the Official Loch Ness Monster Club, said. Dixon passed on the photo to him after the discovery.
