Jake Quickenden is one of the contestants that went through the auditions of this year’s The X Factor UK. This guy is one of the significant cases of singers who fail to make an impact with their first performance, but truly shine when given a second chance. Moreover, this guy’s got a really tough story on his back.
Jake walked in front of judges, Cheryl Cole, Melanie B, Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, to perform John Legend’s “All Of Me”. Everything seemed alright, until he started playing the guitar and speeding up the heartfelt song. The judges asked him to stop singing, but thankfully he was given a second chance; this time he was called to perform A Great Big World’s “Say Something”. In an attempt to help him express his feelings, Mel B challenged him to think of a difficult time in his life when singing. It was then that the singer revealed his younger brother had passed away only last year and got into everyone’s hearts. However, he also managed to get it all out and unleash an incredibly emotional vocal performance.
The judges of course now congratulated him for his rendition of the track and got him through the auditions with four “yes”-es. Before leaving though, Mel B felt the need to hug him tight. Touching story indeed and a very good singer making his way to the show.
