NBC

officially renewed SVU in late April; however Hargitay’s future was still unknown at the time, as the actress was still in the process of contract negotiations. As a result of the uncertainty, the season 14 finale, which aired on May 22, was left with a significant cliff-hanger when Hargitay’s character, Benson, was left face to face with the serial rapist/murderer the SVU team had been trying to apprehend.

Hargitay, who has been on board with SVU since the very beginning, reportedly earned $500,000 per episode during Season 14, and although the financial details of her new contract have not been made public, it is safe to say that she will maintain her title as television’s highest paid actress.

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit will return to NBC in the fall, on Wednesday’s at the 9pm EST timeslot.
