Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) has been reportedly brought on to the highly anticipated Marvel/Sony reboot of Spider-Man, as the film’s director. Goddard was slated to direct The Sinister Six, which was a spin-off film to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. With the announcement of the Marvel/Sony team-up, we all knew what that meant for the Amazing franchise. Now that Amazing has been scrapped, The Sinister Six seems to be stuck in developmental hell indefinitely. Now Goddard has gone on to the reboot project. Many fans are excited about this possibility due to Goddard’s previous works and his keen interest in Spider-Man.
According to new sources, Goddard has been chosen to helm the project that will launch the character of Spider-Man for the third time around. Supposedly the plot of the film will not be an origin story and that instead the film will begin with Peter Parker already being a superhero. Rumors claim that Iron-Man will make an appearance in the film and that Peter Parker will (at some point) try-out for the Avengers team.
It has also been reported that the actor who will play Spider-Man is someone younger and unknown. This rumor contrasts those that speculate Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman are front-runners for the highly anticipated film.
Although Goddard hasn’t been officially confirmed, sources report that it’s only a matter of time before the announcement is made.
