Fans of the Spider-Man comics will be happy to hear that Peter Parker is set to return from the dead! New York Daily News broke the news yesterday that 13 months after Peter Parker lost a battle with Dr. Octopus in The Superior Spider-Man, he will return in the Amazing Spider-Man series that debuts in April. The Superior Spider-Man series kept going with Dr. Octopus in Peter Parker’s body, donning the uniform and the title of Spider-Man.

When Parker died, writer Dan Slott had to deal with a fan backlash that included death threats and crying children, all while trying to keep the secret that Parker’s death was not permanent. On having to lie to fans, Slott said: “To do that for a solid year of my life, that’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do – to look small children in the eye at a convention and lie to them… One of them was in an honest-to-God Little League uniform and had a quivering lip. Inside, part of me was dying.”

One fan did get to find out from Slott that Peter Parker was returning and that person was Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Slott said to him, “[Parker’s coming back] just in time, fancy that, for a major Spider-Man motion picture. It seems uncanny. It was very nice for Sony to schedule the movie around the story.”

In a Q & A with Marvel.com , when asked about what he missed about writing Peter Parker, he answered, “I’ve missed the humor… I’ve missed Peter Parker, the wise-cracking smart aleck. I can’t wait to get back to that, and to have him come back.”

On Parker’s return, Slott said: “He’s coming back, but this is not going to be easy… I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people with how Peter’s going to come back, what’s going to happen to Ock, and what kind of world Peter Parker finds when he returns.”

He added that, “Peter will have to deal with something else. You always have to throw the left hook. It can’t just be what everyone expects it’s going to be, or where’s the fun in that? There’s always one more thing on top, one more twist, one more bump in the road you did not see coming.”
