Matt Smith To Star In Film Adaptation Of ‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’

Matt Smith trades his TARDIS key for a monogramed handkerchief for his role in the film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Good-bye sexy TARDIS, hello Pemberly! Our favorite late Doctor, Matt Smith, is trading in his bow tie for a dinner jacket in the new film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The movie’s book of the same name is based off of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice.

The film, which has been on and off the production line for a while now, will also star Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, and Douglas Booth. Burr Steers will take his place behind the camera when P&P&Z starts up again on September 24th!

We will follow Liz Bennet (Lily James) in this horror-comedy adaptation of Austen’s work. Our heroine is being pressured by her family to marry a wealthy gentleman–preferably upper class. Unfortunately, Ms. Bennet does not approve of the “stiff social mores of Victorian England”.

Instead, she wants to go fight off the zombie plague threatening her fair countryside.

I mean, what marriage can compete with the chance to slaughter the zombie menace?

If you’re familiar with the original Austen classic, you know our fair Lizzy goes through two proposals before she accepts Mr. Darcy’s hand in marriage. Her first is from her cousin, and heir to her family home, Mr. Collins.

This is the man Matt Smith will be playing on screen. Gotta say, I’m a little disappointed. Collins is an…interesting character, and not one I would have chosen for Smith. But it will be good to see a different side to his acting spectrum.

The film has quite the production team, including Brian Oliver, Allison Shearmur, Sean McKittrick, Natalie Portman, Annette Savitch, Tyler Thompson, and Marc Butan.

If you’re still suffering from Matt Smith withdrawal since his leaving the TARDIS, he just finished production on Terminator: Genisys with Jason Clarke and Emilia Clarke. He is also set to star in his first ever American fantasy, Lost River, which is written and directed by Ryan Gosling.

Are you excited to see more Matt Smith? What are your thoughts about his role in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?
