As pretty much every Doctor Who fan knows the upcoming Christmas special will mark the end of his era as the Eleventh Doctor on Doctor Who. Just yesterday, they had a read-through for his finale episode.

The Doctor Who twitter account posted a picture of Smith holding a copy of his final Doctor Who script.

Filming for his final episode begins this Sunday (September 8th), and Smith recently revealed to ITV’s Daybreak that he will have to wear a wig for his final appearance in his role on Doctor Who.

“I [cut my hair] for a film, but it means I have to wear a wig in Doctor Who, which is a nightmare, I’m excited – I start shooting the Christmas special [on] Sunday. It’ll be sad – the end of a wonderful era!”

He shaved his head for his role in Ryan Gosling’s upcoming directorial debut for the film How To Catch A Monster. Gosling will not only be directing the film but also writing and producing as well.

The film is described as an American fantasy-neo-noir film about a single mother entering a dark lifestyle. Her son, meanwhile, uncovers a road leading to an underwater utopia. Not much is known about Smith’s role in the movie. What we do know is that he will be playing character named Bully.

While Smith will be leaving as the Doctor, he has given his seal of approval to the new doctor to be played by Peter Capaldi. The Mirror revealed that the two recently had lunch together.

Smith has even gone as far as to say that Capaldi could be the “best Doctor yet”.

“I really rate Peter – he’s such an amazing actor and completely right for the part. We went out for lunch to talk Doctor tactics. I’m not sure if I gave him any real ideas because it’s not like he needs much help. He’ll play the Doctor in his own way – and do it brilliantly. I can’t wait to see what he does with the part.”

You can check out Smith’s final appearance as the Doctor when the Christmas special airs on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013!
