After months of speculation, Matt Bomer has been announced as the actor who will portray Montgomery Clift in the biopic, Monty Clift.

Bomer’s reps confirmed the role to ET, and producer Michael Din has also reportedly confirmed Bomer’s role via Twitter. The film is expected to have a 2015 release date. Christopher Lovick has written the script and Larry Moss is attached as director.

According to IMDB, the film will focus on Clift’s relationship with Elizabeth Taylor following their 1951 film, A Place in the Sun. Clift and Taylor also starred in two more films before his death: Raintree Country and Suddenly, Last Summer.

Clift had a relationship with choreography Jerome Robbins, and abused painkillers and alcohol following a serious car crash in 1956. The legendary actor was nominated for four Academy Awards (three for Best Actor, one for Best Supporting Actor).

Bomer was one of the faces of Magic Mike and stars in the television series White Collar. He was one of the stars speculated to star as Christian Grey in the highly-anticipated 50 Shades of Grey adaptation. Fans set up a petition for him to replace Christian Hunnam, who ultimately got the role. Bomer can be seen next on HBO’s The Normal Heart and in the movie Winter’s Tale.
