The world of heavy metal was shaken earlier this March when Dave “Oderus Urungus” Brockie of GWAR was announced dead in his home at the age of 50. The news had come as sudden to all who knew him and the verdict was out on just how he had passed.
New information regarding his death has been released, and according to the office of the Virginia Medical Examiner, Brockie passed away due to accidental heroin overdose. Brockie joins an unfortunately large sum of musicians who have passed away due to overdose, and his death offers a stark brush of reality to stars that are currently addicted. I think we can all agree that this stuff isn’t safe for you to be having.
Despite his death, however, the music and epically gruesome live performances of GWAR shall forever remain legendary in the metal scene. Oderus Urungus has his legacy stamped into many rock fans’ hearts forever, and that in and of itself is a blessing to not be taken lightly.
