As the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL, Michael Sam has solidified his place in the media spotlight for many years to come.  Now after the celebratory kiss he shared with his boyfriend was televised, people have also become curious about the lucky guy by Michael’s side.

It turns out Sam’s partner, 23-year-old Vito Cammisano, has witnessed his fair share of media attention before, and for less than savory reasons.

A former competitive swimmer and 2013 graduate of the University of Missouri, the school where he met Sam, Cammisano himself has a flawless reputation, but the same cannot be said for his family.

Vito is the grandson of late Mafia boss William “Willie the Rat” Cammisano and the son of Jerry Cammisano, a convicted felon who served time for running a gambling ring in Kansas City. William Cammisano gained his nickname by allegedly stuffing the bodies of his murder victims into sewers so they would be eaten by rats.

It looks like Vito has risen above his unpleasant family history though. Cammisano, who holds a communications degree, is currently working as an intern at radio conglomerate Cumulus Media. Vito is also enjoying the good times with Michael as the couple were spotted partying at TAO Nightclub in Las Vegas on May 10th.

Let’s hope Vito and Michael enjoy a happy and loving life together for a long time. Both of them seem like gentlemen who certainly deserve it.
