Melissa McCarthy Speaks Out About Women’s Clothing Struggles & Her New Fashion Range

Melissa McCarthy has spoken out about clothing labels who make it difficult for bigger, plus-sized women to feel good about themselves when shopping.

Melissa McCarthy, perhaps best known for her stand-out role in Bridesmaids, has spoken out about clothing labels who make it difficult for bigger, plus-sized women to feel good about themselves when shopping.

She was speaking as her own clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7 was made available in various retail stores. She said:

“Women come in all sizes. Seventy percent of women in the United States are a size 14 or above, and that’s technically ‘plus-size,’ so you’re taking your biggest category of people and telling them, ‘You’re not really worthy.’I find that very strange.”

She went on to add:

“I just think, if you’re going to make women’s clothing, make women’s clothing. Designers that put everyone in categories are over-complicating something that should be easy.”

Back in June, she said that her motivation behind creating her own line came when she struggled to find an outfit for The Oscars two years ago:

” I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no.”

Now, with her Hollywood star rising and her own body confidence seemingly higher than ever, McCarthy is a proud ambassador for body confidence in women everywhere. Her clothing range is available in sizes four through 28 and includes, basics, tops, loungewear and leggings.
