MGM is getting ready to expand on the Stargate universe with a new set of films! The project, which is backed by MGM and Warner Bros., will serve as a re-imagined trilogy of the sci-fi hit.
MGM and Warner Bros. are teaming up with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to bring one of the biggest titles in the MGM library back to the big screen. Emmerich, who both directed and co-wrote one of the biggest titles in the MGM library, is on board to direct while Devlin will produce.
“The Stargate universe is one that we missed terribly, and we cannot wait to get going on imagining new adventures and situations for the trilogy,” said Emmerich and Devlin of their work on the re-imagining.
One of the genre’s most loved and well-known films, Stargate, hit nearly $200 million in global ticket sales and has since gone on to have a successful run as a syndicated TV series.
MGM’s Jonathan Glickman and Warner Bros’ Greg Silverman will oversee the project.
