Oscar campaigning season is approaching and one person that is not taking part is Michael Fassbender.
Fassbender could be nominated for his role in 12 Years a Slave in which he portrays an evil and terrifying plantation owner who abuses his slaves in every way possible. But, he isn’t going to go running around trying to get a nomination though. “You know, I get it. Everybody’s got to do their job. So you try and help and facilitate as best you can. But I won’t put myself through that kind of situation again. It’s just a grind. And I’m not a politician. I’m an actor.” says the X-men: First Class star.
Two years ago, Fassbender was intensely promoting and campaigning for an Oscar for his role as a sex addict in the Steve McQueen film Shame. Though he tried very hard, he unfortunately was not nominated.
Luckily, the actor has a very convenient excuse for his absence this awards season as he will be on set filming his production company’s first feature film in New Zealand as well as shooting Macbeth with Marion Cotillard.
Fassbender isn’t the only celebrity to not be too keen on winning an award. Joaquin Phoenix, who could also be nominated this year for his role in Her, went off on a rant last year to Interview magazine about how he thinks the award ceremonies are “bullsh-t”, how he doesn’t want any part of them and compares them to a horrible tasting carrot.
While both actors aren’t concerned with winning the award, we will just have to wait and see how the nominations play out for them this year! Nominations for the 86th Academy Awards will be announced on January 16, 2014.
