History has been made, everybody!

Michael Sam became the 249th draft pick in round 7 of the NFL Draft today (May 10), after being drafted to the St. Louis Rams.

Sam, who publicly announced his sexuality in February, is currently the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year. He has been playing for the University of Missouri, which makes his new home not too far from where he has been playing for the past four years.

ESPN was there to capture the moment when he got the phone call saying that he got drafted. He broke down and cried at the news, thankful for the opportunity to join the Rams.

He then took to Twitter to thank the Rams and the city of St. Louis:

We can’t wait to see what he does in this upcoming season, and we wish him the best in this next step of his career.
