Microsoft To Split Xbox Live Gold Family Accounts

Microsoft is planning on migrating Xbox Live Gold Family Accounts to individual accounts, come August 17th, reports Digital Spy.

Each individual will be charged for the remainder of the subscription. But it’s not all that bad – you’ll receive an extra three months of membership, free, according to Microsoft’s Xbox FAQ site:

Each of your family’s new individual memberships will have the same amount of time remaining on them as your Gold Family Pack does at the time of conversion.”

After making the change, users will no longer be able to make Microsoft point allowances or monitor activity. Keep in mind that all of this is being done in preparation for the new Home Gold feature, which means instead of a family pack, a single Xbox Live Gold membership can be shared between anyone in your home. The Microsoft point allowances issue is due to the fact that (thankfully) Microsoft will no longer have online purchases paid through Microsoft points – just regular old currency. For good, too. No more awkward points to cash conversions.
