Mischa Barton has finally taken some time to open up about her breakdown. The former star on Fox’s The O.C. said she was under a large of pressure when she became so famous so fast. The 27-year-old actress was admitted against her will to a psychiatric ward in 2009 after she took sedatives and threatened to take her own life.
Two years earlier, Barton was arrested on the suspicion of driving under the influence, which led to her parents intervening as her partying had gotten more than out of control.
Barton said “We thought, work hard, play hard”, in regards to being a tabloid it girl for many years.
She added that “It was a full-on breakdown. I was under enormous pressure. I’ve learned a lot and I’m stronger now.” It was always, ‘She’s too skinny, she must be sick’. Then it was, ‘She’s too big’. I was never the right weight.”
Mischa Barton is on her way to rebuilding her career. She is set to star in the thriller I Will Follow You Into The Dark, and has filmed the pilot for The Gusty Fog. Barton has also stated that even after being a tabloid queen, that she wouldn’t wish fame on her worst enemy.
