The cast and crew of Modern Family are packing their things and heading to Australia and executive producer Steven Levitan promises not to make any jokes about going “Down Under.”
It has become tradition for the series to film an “away” episode each season, having travelled to Florida, Hawaii and even Disneyland in the past, but this family vacation is certainly their most ambitious.
The promises kept coming from Levitan who said, “We promise to feature a kangaroo, a koala and a boomerang. I’m sure there will be lots more, but so far that’s all we know about Australia – our American school system is a disaster.”
One of the stars of the show, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband Justin Mikita visited Australia late last year and sadly for Modern Family fans, Ferguson commented that there will be no Mitchell and Cameron wedding during their visit. “Marriage isn’t legal here, so we’re not going to get married in Australia,” Ferguson said. He then teased fans saying, “maybe we’ll have to go to New Zealand and get married there, show (Australia) what they’re missing.”
The “Down Under” episode will feature at some point during the upcoming new season and while no filming locales have been confirmed yet, it is thought that they may include the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Bondi Beach.
Modern Family returns to ABC on January 15 and to Australia’s Channel 10 after the Sochi Winter Olympics.
