We reported earlier  today about how the uncovering of the previously missing Doctor Who episodes that excited and influenced Mark Gatiss.  Now, one of the 2nd Doctor’s companions has been talking about the “new” episodes.

Whilst attending the London screening for “The Web of Fear” and “ The Enemy of the World,” actress Deborah Watling admitted she thought the announcement of the discovery was a hoax, and she “couldn’t quite believe” it when she first heard the news.

Watling, who starred opposite Patrick Troughton as Victoria in both of the recently unearthed episodes, said that there have been fake reports of this nature before.  “I thought it’s just another hoax, it won’t be me.  Because a lot of my episodes were trashed or recorded over.”  However, once she had confirmation that the episodes were genuine , she became excited at a whole new generation getting to see her journeys in the TARDIS.  “I thought, ‘My God, I’ll be back on the screen again, all these years later’ – it’s amazing.”

Frazer Hines, who played Jamie McCrimmon in the recovered episodes, was also very pleased at the discovery of the episodes. “We were disappointed that a lot of stories were missing, but this now gives me hope that more stories of Patrick’s will come out of the woodwork.”

Both newly discovered episodes are available to be downloaded from iTunes and will be released on DVD in the future.
