Pregnant mother Ebony Wilkerson, left her house Friday mumbling about demons being in her home. She got into her car with her two children and drove.
Wilkerson’s sister alerted the police to Wilkerson’s ravings, and the police pulled Wilkerson over. However, because Wilkerson made no threats about having suicidal or homicidal thoughts, the cops, legally, had to release her.
Shortly after, Wilkerson drove her car into the ocean.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after and saved the three children.
According to rescuer Tim Tessender, “The two [children] in the back seat [were] crying, with their arms out saying, “Our mommy’s trying to kill us, please help.” The kids [were] like, “No, there’s a baby. There’s a baby. [Ebony] wouldn’t say a word. She didn’t tell us anything about a baby. She had this look on her face. I can’t describe it. It was just an awful blank look, like spaced out look.”
Police were able to rescue the children and the mother. Mark Swanson, Volusia County Beach safety director said, “The waves were strong, and the water was cold. If it had been minutes longer, the outcome probably would have been different.”
Family members will probably take custody of the children, and hopefully the mother will receive the necessary mental health care she needs.
