Move Like Creatures Unveil Debut Single “Mind Reader”

“Our goal is to connect with anyone out there who still feels alone or misunderstood and may be on the verge of giving up hope…”

South California band Move Like Creatures – frontwoman Nancy Bombard, drummer Melissa Koziel, bassist Brian Bello and guitarist Ryan Reynolds (no, not THAT Ryan Reynolds!) – united in the midst of isolation, misery and hardships caused by the pandemic and the lockdowns. Today, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere their debut single “Mind Reader” and its accompanying video.

The track also offers a taste of what fans can expect from this incredibly fresh, exciting band and their debut EP, recorded with producer and engineer Ethan Kaufmann who has worked with the likes of Avril Lavigne. The collection offers an insight into the band, both lyrically and artistically: bright, driven and led by addictive pop-hooks and tight instrumentation, and not afraid to address difficult topics and issues such as loss and mental health.

Asked about the idea behind and inspiration to the song, the band share: Lyrically, Mind Reader is an expression of frustration with the unhelpful advice you’ll receive from all the armchair – and professional -therapists out there while dealing with mental health issues. It’s also an acknowledgement of the desperation you can feel while searching for an answer. In contrast, the music celebrates the feeling of satisfaction you get when you look back at your bumpy journey knowing that you’ve grown and surrounded yourself with people who truly see you and love you for you.”

They add, addressing what they hope those who hear the track will take from it: “Our goal is to connect with anyone out there who still feels alone or misunderstood and may be on the verge of giving up hope. We’re excited to get this message out that you’ll always have a welcoming home with our family of creatures.

The importance of mental health and looking after your wellbeing – in each and every sense of the word – has never been more relevant than it is right now. The last eighteen months or so have proven considerably difficult for millions around the world, and “Mind Reader”, with its powerful, somewhat poignant and immensely honest lyrics, serves as a great reminder to us all that, even when we think we are, we’re not alone in how we feel, and that we can get through the hard periods of our lives and enjoy brighter, happier times. It’s a track that also establishes Move Like Creatures as a band who are, like all of us, deeply human, and who understand the thoughts and feelings of their fans, giving them that extra close, personal connection with those who hear their music and support them.
