Suicide – it’s a tragic event that can happen to any family, be they rich or poor. Julia Roberts and her family are currently dealing with this tragedy. Nancy Motes (Roberts’ half-sister) committed suicide this weekend.
Not only is the actress dealing with the loss of a family member, but she must deal with the fact that her sister blamed Roberts for all of her troubles. There was a lengthy suicide note (between 5 and 8 pages long). “There were three pages of rantings that her sister drove her to do this. There was one page to her mom, telling her how much she loved her, and one page apologizing to [her fiancé] John Dilbeck,” an unnamed source told the New York Daily News.
Furthermore, the same source claimed that the actress reportedly attempted to get her half-sister into a rehab facility right before Nancy’s death. Added to the reports is that it seems a pill overdose is the cause of death, even though someone close to Motes claims that she wasn’t an addict. “She was on some prescription medications, but she wasn’t abusing them. She wasn’t a drug addict,” this person told the newspaper.
The source also discussed Nancy and Julia’s ties. “The sisters had a very complex relationship. They used to be very close when they were younger. Julia tried in vain over the years, even in the last six months, to get Nancy to go to rehab. Nancy refused the offers and that is when she would often publicly lash out at Julia,” the source continued on. “It hurt Julia, but she knew her sister was battling addiction.”
Others contest these comments. A friend of Motes claimed Roberts didn’t offer help and that the siblings had a falling out. “She felt Julia was withholding their mother from her, and it was more than she could bear,” the friend remarked.
