Natalie Portman, who is currently starring in Thor: The Dark World, says she’s excited to see a female superhero movie. This is something she says is happening in the near future.
“There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming – I have heard is coming – and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters,” she told SiFiNow.
She continued: “But they do definitely have strong female characters in them and I think it’s a testament to the people who run Marvel, their respect, their just normal human respect for women, the way they want to characterize them.”
Portman plays Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest in the film. For the film series, they changed Foster’s occupation from nurse, her occupation in the comic series, to an astrophysicist. This is one of the many ways Marvel has incorporated strong female characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“You can tell when men talk to you, as just a person or as a ‘woman’,” she continues.
Thor: The Dark World will be released in theatres on November 8th.
