Christmas is not Christmas without the 2003 movie Elf, and now NBC is offering a new twist on the holiday classic.
It was announced today that NBC has green-lighted a one-hour, stop-motion animated special called Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. Actor Jim Parsons will voice the main character, Buddy, who will travel to New York City as he searches for his father.
Ed Asner, who was featured as Santa in the film, will also take part in the NBC special as the narrator. Other notable names playing a role include Matt Lauer, Mark Hamill, Jay Leno, Rachael MacFarlane, Gilbert Gottfried and Steve Higgins.
Fans of the Broadway adaptation of the film will recognize a few familiar tunes in the new animated special, including “A Christmas Song,” “Happy All the Time,” and “Nobody Cares About Santa Claus.”
