Calling all Truebies! True Blood’s fiercest and most fabulous diva, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), has been cast in the upcoming James Brown biopic, Get On Up, to be directed by Tate Taylor, in collaboration with Universal Pictures. Brian Grazer shall occupy the producer’s chair alongside Jagged Films’ Mick Jagger.
Ellis will portray Bobby Byrd, a close friend of James Brown, as well as his musical partner, as reported by Deadline. This will prove to a pivotal role the film as Byrd was an integral part of Brown’s life. The role of James Brown will be played by Chadwick Boseman, with Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis also committed to the project.
Other than True Blood, Ellis has had roles in Lee Daniel’s The Butler, Secretariat, The Express, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and The Soloist.
Filming for the project is scheduled to begin in November in Mississippi.
