Social Media has the Shorty Award; Web series have their Streamys; Hollywood has Oscars and Emmys to hand out; the music industry has the Grammys and Broadway has the Tonys.
To celebrate the best they have to offer to their beloved members, NetFlix has come up with the Flixies, an award that is an online experience; enabling fans in the United States, and in the 40 countries around the world where Netflix is offered, to vote for their favorite TV shows and movies on the service in categories they can really relate to. They have come up with some very clever award titles that reflect real-life viewing habits – e.g. “Best Tantrum Tamer” (for those with kids; virtual babysitters), “Best Hangover Cure” (for those on the mend; helps with the pounding headache), or “Best Marathon TV Show” (for those who tell themselves “Ok, just one more before bed”; I do this all the time).
The top three winners in each category will be announce on March 11th. Viewers will also be able to write-in new viewing categories based on their personal watching experience for future Flixies.
