Netflix Owns Emmy Nominations While ‘Modern Family’ Is Out For The First Time

The ‘Emmy’ nominations are here and Netflix dominated, but who will win the awards? We have a few ideas.

The Emmy nominations are out and we are ready to gossip! For the first time in the show’s history Modern Family was not up for best comedy and Netflix beat HBO in total nominations. Let’s get down to the details and make some predictions, which will most definitely be wrong. Also, we won’t comment on every category because there are just too many.

-Drama Series

“The Handmaid’s Tale”

“Game of Thrones”

“This Is Us”

“The Crown”

“The Americans”

“Stranger Things”

“Westworld”

Who takes this award? Our instincts are going to go with The Handmaid’s Tale even though this is Game of Thrones goodbye tour. The show has just broken too much ground to not be recognized for it’s greatness.

-Comedy Series

“Atlanta” (FX)

“Barry” (HBO)

“Black-ish” (ABC)

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” (HBO)

“GLOW” (Netflix)

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Amazon)

“Silicon Valley” (HBO)

“The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (Netflix)

We’re surprised to see Kimmy Schmidt on the list after a short part one of its final season, but we believe this award will go to Barry. Strictly because Henry Winkler is in it and we adore the Fonz.

-Limited Series

“The Alienist”

“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”

“Genius: Picasso”

“Godless”

“Patrick Melrose”

-Lead Actor in a Drama Series:

Jason Bateman (“Ozark”)

Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us”)

Ed Harris (“Westworld”)

Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”)

Milo Ventimiglia (“This Is Us”)

Jeffrey Wright (“Westworld”)

Milo Ventimiglia deserves the win for his work on This is Us so we are hopeful he will take the win. Jason Bateman is a good possibility though after the horrifying role he played in Ozark.

-Lead Actress in a Drama Series:

Claire Foy (“The Crown”)

Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”)

Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”)

Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”)

Keri Russell (“The Americans”)

Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”)

We’re torn on this category because Elisabeth Moss is breathtaking as June/Offred in THT but we freaking love Sandra Oh. Oh’s victory would shatter ceilings and Moss got it last year so we’ll give our prediction to Sandra Oh.

-Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:

Donald Glover (“Atlanta”)

Bill Hader (“Barry”)

Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”)

William H. Macy (“Shameless”)

Larry David (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”)

Ted Danson (“The Good Place”)

Bill Hader has been one of our absolute favorites for a long time and Barry is an exceptional comedy. He deserves and, we hope, he will absolutely win this Emmy.

-Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:

Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”)

Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”)

Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”)

Allison Janney (“Mom”)

Darren Criss (“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”)

John Legend (“Jesus Christ Superstar”)

Jesse Plemons (“USS Callister”)

-Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie:

Laura Dern (“The Tale”)

Jessica Biel (“The Sinner”)

Michelle Dockery (“Godless”)

Edie Falco (“The Menendez Murders”)

Regina King (“Seven Seconds”)

Sarah Paulson (“American Horror Story: Cult”)

If Jessica Biel doesn’t win for this category it’ll be highway robbery. Biel’s performance on The Sinner was haunting, disturbing and so well done. She gave this her all and should be rewarded accordingly.

-Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (“Game of Thrones”)

Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”)

Joseph Fiennes (“The Handmaid’s Tale”)

David Harbour (“Stranger Things”)

Mandy Patinkin (“Homeland”)

Matt Smith (“The Crown”)

Fred Waterford is a piece of human garbage but Joseph Fiennes does an amazing job bringing him to life. There’s no question in our minds that after season two, he’ll take the win.

-Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Alexis Bledel (“The Handmaid’s Tale”)

Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”)

Ann Dowd (“The Handmaid’s Tale”)

Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”)

Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown”)

Thandie Newton (“Westworld”)

Yvonne Strahovski (“The Handmaid’s Tale”)

We have zero guess work to do on this category because Yvonne Strahovski is the only choice to win. She made Serena Joy a likeable character and a monster all at the same time.

-Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Louie Anderson (“Baskets”)

Alec Baldwin (“Saturday Night Live”)

Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”)

Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”)

Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”)

Henry Winkler (“Barry”)

We think you can guess our choice, even though Kenan Thompson and Tony Shalhoub are two of our most favorites, Henry Winkler is the clear victor.
