Pixar‘s movie lineup still leaves much to be desired in terms of LGBTQ inclusion, but a short film released on Friday shows there is the capacity to bring these stories to life through tearjerking animation.
Coming out is never easy, but when your parents love you unconditionally, it’s the most rewarding feeling ever. The new short “OUT” tells the story of Greg, who is in a secret relationship with a man and his parents don’t know. While moving out, his parents come to help but. Greg tries to find the courage but can’t until one random Freaky Friday moment happens and he ends up learning how to get the message across in a different way.
On an average day, Greg’s life is filled with family, love and a rambunctious little dog – but despite all of this, Greg has a secret. Today is different, though. With some help from his precocious pup, and a little bit of magic, Greg might learn that he has nothing to hide.
Parents being more accepting is much more normal than it was a while ago but we still have a long way to go, unfortunately. This new short hopefully will help those who feel like they have something to hide, hopefully will help them make them feel otherwise. It’s not a shame to hide your true self.
