In a BBC news report with Lizo Mzimba, Doctor Who fans were able to get a glimpse at Peter Capaldi as the 2000-year-old  Time Lord.

He’s definitely sharper, funnier, and more sarcastic than his predecessors–even Tennant’s self-pronounced “Rude and not ginger” incarnation. But what else did we expect? We’ve had the eager to please, flirty, boyish Doctors, and it’s definitely time for something new.

The first features the “Am I a good man” scene, so often used in the trailers and teasers, but this time we get a look at the next bit, albeit briefly. He seems pretty annoyed that Clara hasn’t got an answer for him, with his sulky, dismissive, expression. It’s a bit like the “What’s the point of having you all?!” rant from the Eleventh Doctor era, but maybe a bit grumpier.

The next is from episode two, allegedly titled “Into the Dalek” although that is yet to be officially announced, and features Zawe Ashton and Michael Smiley. In it, the Doctor is hilarious in his lack of tact, declaring that Clara is his “..carer. She cares so I don’t have to.”

However, all signs point to Clara softening him up a bit as the series progresses. After all, isn’t that what the companions are for? To offer a bit of human input to this alien character?

We then see him face to face with the iconic monster, the hellish pepper pot is asking the Time Lord for help. A Dalek that’s different from the others? That’s something we’ve seen in the Ninth Doctor era episode “Dalek” and, more recently, with Oswin Oswald.

Hmm…

Capaldi is every bit the Doctor in these clips, and yet something brand new. Bring on August 23!
