It is Monday, but now we have a reason to smile … nervously.
A new image of Jared Leto as The Joker from the upcoming Suicide Squad film has been revealed. Although not officially revealed yet by Empire Magazine, their latest subscription-exclusive cover has found its way online. With only brief glimpses of the character on the set of the new DCU movie and a few seconds of chilling footage from the trailer, this is bound to spark more anticipation for Leto’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.
The image’s punk-like aesthetic and neon colours give us a good sense of what to expect from this portrayal of Batman’s greatest foe and make me think it is unlike the many we have seen before. It is also inherently dark and gruesome, with The Joker’s Academy Award-winning portrayer Leto quoted saying he may be ‘locked away in a box’ following the film’s release.
Judging by that icy, harrowing stare in the image, he is probably right.
Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, is due to be released August 5, 2016.
