A trailer for the Guillermo Del Toro-directed sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim has finally been released online. The footage debuted back in March at Anaheim’s WonderCon. If you’re unfamiliar with Pacific Rim, the film follows an alien attack on earth, in which the human race must use giant robots in order to fight back the assailants. The twist, in this case, is that the aliens rise from the depths of the ocean instead of beaming down from flying saucers – like it’s usually expected. The trailer is very reminiscent of films like Transformers, Battleship, and even classic monster movies like Godzilla. It no doubt has all the characteristics of a huge summer blockbuster and with a big name like Del Toro at the helm, it’s sure to make a splash with moviegoers.
The film stars Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman, Idris Elba (Prometheus), and Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses). Pacific Rim opens in RealD 3D and IMAX on July 12th. Check out the trailer below courtesy of Digital Spy!
