The movie trailer for “The Book Thief”, a novel by Australian author Markus Zusak, was just released Wednesday and seems to already be a big hit among fans of the popular novel.
This book takes place in Nazi Germany and is narrated by Death. It follows the life and journey of a young girl, Liesel Meminger, most importantly the plot line of the Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her home to escape persecution during the worst parts of World War II.
Published in 2006, “The Book Thief” has won multiple prestigious awards, including the Michael L. Printz Honor Book award, the ALA Best Books for Young Adults award, and being listed on The New York Times Best Seller list for over 230 weeks.
The film adaptation will be released in theaters this November 15th. It will be directed by Brian Perciva and scripted by Michael Petroni. Sophie Nélisse, a French-Canadian actress, will be playing the protagonist, Liesel Meminger. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that John Williams (Star Wars, Superman) himself will compose the music soundtrack.
Hundreds of fans of the book have commented on the trailer on YouTube, the majority praising how closely it seemed to follow the book. Said one fan, “Chills. So many chills. This looks amazing.” Another excited fan expressed: “OH MY GOD I AM SO EXCITED THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER WHEN CAN I HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL THING”
