News Anchor Has The Last Word In Response To Coca Cola Commercial Controversy

After racist, homophobic, and un-American comments following Coca Cola’s latest Superbowl ad, everyone seems to have an opinion.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is one that puts a stop to the argument.

In case you missed it, the commercial featured “America the Beautiful” being sung in a variety of languages by American citizens showing love for their country.

“The Statue of Liberty doesn’t say, ‘Give me your English-speaking-only, Christian-believing, heterosexual masses,’” quotes a particularly bright, sassy, and smart Brenda Wood of news station WXIA in Atlanta. “It says gives me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, tempest tossed.”

Wood also reiterates how America is unique because it is a melting pot. She talks about how it is ridiculous this campaign should come as a surprise. Coca Cola has had the same message since the beginning, featured in its “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” commercial of 1971. The fact also stands that “America the Beautiful” was, indeed, written by a lesbian.

Being part Native American myself, I know that English is not the American language. My ancestors would sing in Cherokee and be more American than George Washington himself.
