Nickelodeon To Revive Legends Of The Hidden Temple As A TV Movie

Nickelodeon has announced a revamp of the beloved 90s gameshow Legends of the Hidden Temple, with a small surprise! The TV show is now a movie!

The 90s were an incredible time for kids. The internet was a fresh idea, and even more exciting than having your own Walkman for music were the game shows. It was many children’s dream to one day end up on the Nickelodeon’s majorly popular game show Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Although it seemed as though the days of turning on the TV to watch six  teams take on various mental and physical challenges are long over, it has been confirmed that the show is coming back to Nickelodeon in the form of a TV Movie.

In this adaptation, the movie will follow the adventures of three siblings who must overcome different obstacles to survive. There has not been any released background for where or why the siblings are in this location, but the objective to stay alive is clear.

The movie will also include references to the game show including the famous talking head of Olmec, the Steps of Knowledge, and even some sightings of a green monkey, red jaguar and silver snakes. The movie will also feature actress Isabela Monae, probably as one of the siblings.

Legends of the Hidden Temple was a competitive game show that had children competing in a Mayan inspired temple for the chance to earn Pendants of Life for a chance to enter Olmec’s temple, solve the final puzzle without getting grabbed and win the day’s grand prize. The game was hosted by Kirk Fogg, who provided commentary alongside the giant stone head of Olmec. Olmec alone had some knowledge behind the temple’s secrets and explained the legends and challenges throughout the show.

The show would start off with the six teams: Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots and Silver Snakes. All six teams, each made up of one boy and one girl, would attempt to cross a Moat as their first challenge; the first four teams that were able to cross advanced to the second round.

The Steps of Knowledge challenged the four teams in a game of wits, determining which two teams knew the most in topics like history, mythology and geography. The top two teams then went on to the Temple Games, where the players earned the Pendants of Life for the final challenge. The team with the most number of pendants went into Olmec’s temple.

In Olmec’s Temple the challenge seemed simple enough for the players: go in the temple and retrieve the artifact. The challenge came from the time limit of three minutes and the Temple Guards that would grab players, who could only escape if they had a complete Pendant of Life. Many attempted, yet few won the entire challenge on Legends of the Hidden Temple.

It’ll be interesting to see how the movie plays out, just seeing the concepts from the game show in a new light would be nice. Maybe even Fogg could make a cameo in the film. I’m excited to see the Red Jaguar because they were my favorite team (that never seemed to win, but that’s besides the point) What do you look forward to in this TV Movie?
