It’s game over for the Wii! Nintendo Japan has announced that they have ceased production on the original Wii console.
When Wii launched back in 2006, it was the hottest new toy in town, and everyone was waiting to get their hands on the system. The appeal was beyond the normal gaming demographic, which pushed sales into the hundred millions worldwide (for units sold), according to sources.
The beauty of the Wii is that all age demographics could enjoy it, but after 7 years high on the hog and a failed follow-up console, Wii U, sales are just not garnering the demand for continued production.
If there’s anything we know in this day and age, it’s that there is always going to be the “hot new thing,” so although it’s sad to say goodbye to the Wii, and let’s be honest, 7 years of glory is a long time in tech years, one can only imagine what will be next!
Are you sad to see Wii go or was this a long time coming?
