No New Christmas Glee Album To Ring In The Holidays

This week marks the end of October and already we can see signs of Christmas creeping daily into our favourite shops, along with the ever-present notification of how many days are left till Christmas. We’re fast approaching that time of the year when it’s actually acceptable to belt out Christmas tunes and have our ringtone set to “Jingle Bell Rock”. However, this year Gleeks will find a new album missing from their Christmas collection.

In an interview last week with Billboard, Columbia Records chairman and CEO, Rob Stringer, confirmed that there will be no Glee Christmas album this year. In speaking about their 2013 Christmas album strategy, he said, “This is the first time in three years we don’t have a Glee Christmas album. But I think we sold 1.87 albums of the Glee Christmas editions.”

Does this mean there will be no Kurt and Blaine Christmas duet this year? But that’s a Christmas tradition!

The Glee Christmas albums have been hits for the past three years. The first album, 2010’s Glee: The Music: The Christmas Album shot up to number three on the Billboard 200. Season 3’s Glee: The Music: The Christmas Album: Volume 2 debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200, though last year’s third volume only debuted at number 20.

Given that the school year has been split over seasons 4 and 5, we’re only currently around April-May in the series, so it is unsurprising that there wouldn’t be a Christmas episode this season.

Glee returns with “A Katy or A Gaga?” on November 7.
